Howdy!

I am so excited to be teaching 2nd grade at Scholar Academy and I can’t wait to meet y’all! If you noted a little ‘twang’ in my opening you would be correct. As a born and raised Texan, I’m very proud of my home state, but now I absolutely love living in Utah. My husband and I moved here, in August of 2012 for a great opportunity he had with Herff Jones. We have a daughter, Hailey, who lives in Florida and is an international flight attendant. We also have two weenie dogs, Oliver and Tina, and I’m sure you’ll hear all about their adventures in class. On the weekends you will find us enjoying the great outdoors; doing activities such as hiking, biking, or camping all with the goal of just being outside and soaking up nature!

I’ve been teaching in elementary education for the past 15 years and can’t wait for this school year to start. My educational background is in biology, which I received a Bachelors of Science degree while minoring in Psychology from the University of Houston-Victoria. I absolutely love science and learning about the life cycles of all creatures and plants in our world and how we can relate to them as humans. My goal is to bring life science into the classroom, to share with my students so that they can gain a deeper appreciation of all living things in our environment.

I hold the same belief that Scholar Academy has made as a school, which is to help create a balanced child from academics, to strong character building, to citizenship. The old saying, “it takes a village to raise a child,” could not be truer and together we can create a well-rounded child that will be successful in life. I look forward to meeting all of my new students and their parents soon; we are going to have a great year!
